The 9th Annual Smoke on the Plains Derby BBQ & Music Fest is set for June 6, 7 and 8, 2019 at scenic High Park, located on the east side of Derby. This free, fun and family-friendly event is Derby's largest event. We appreciate the support of the community and our sponsors in making this event possible.
June 6: Carnival Kick-off
6-10 p.m.
Northwest parking lot
$25/wrist band or $3/ride
New this year is a Steak Contest, which is open to the public (limit of 30 entries), and the Derby Recreation Commission Toss Like a Boss Cornhole Tournament.
June 8
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. & 6-10 p.m.
Saturday's event will feature the KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) Cook-off, Backyard BBQ Cook-off, Verus Bank/Creekstone Farms People's Choice Contest, food trucks and the Derby Noon Lions Club Beer Garden. Kids can enjoy inflatables, face painters, Princess Pros Entertainment, 9 Square and more.
The Security 1st Mainstage will feature the Haymakers (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) followed by an evening performance by Morrison County (6-7 p.m.) and Mountain Deer Revival
(7-10 p.m.). The Derby Lions club Beer & Beverage Garden and Shaken or Stirred will be open.
The carnival will be open from noon-5 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. with $25 wristbands available for each session.
The Verus Bank a branch of Citizens Bank of Kansas/Creekstone Farms People's Choice Contest will take place on Saturday (time TBA). Tasting kits are $5 and you receive eight, 1 oz. samples of competition quality pulled pork.
Proceeds from this event benefit the McConnell Air Force Base Airman and Family Readiness Center.
