Court Changes due to COVID-19
In order to conform with social distancing guidelines, Derby Municipal Court has added Wednesday, May 13 and Wednesday, May 20 to our courtroom schedule for the purpose of first appearances. Appearances are being scheduled each hour in groups of 10 or less.

Staff is working to notify those with a current address on file of their next scheduled appearance. If you have not received a notice, call the court clerk's office for instructions. In some circumstances, appearances may be handled over the phone without appearing in person. Anyone with questions regarding their appearance should call 788-1511.

It is important for you to appear at the specific date and time provided in your notice.

Clerk staff remains available during regular office hours for all other court business.


Derby Municipal Court

The Derby Municipal Court is dedicated to providing fair, efficient, professional, and effective disposition of all matters within its jurisdiction. The Municipal Court has jurisdiction of violations of city ordinances for traffic cases and other types of cases, such as fire code, property violations, and other misdemeanor criminal matters. All other more serious criminal matters are handled through the District Court.

  • Derby Municipal Court is held every Thursday.
  • Arraignments begin at 9 a.m.
  • Video arraignments begin at 1:00 p.m.
  • Trials and all other matters begin at 2 p.m.
  • Municipal Court citations can be paid online.

Monday, May 25th - Memorial Day
Friday, July 3rd - Independence Day
Monday, September 7th - Labor Day
Wednesday, November 11th - Veterans Day
Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th - Thanksgiving
