The Community Education Unit is staffed by a master police officer and three police officers. They work as part of the Patrol Division to provide safety and prevention information to the public. Officers assigned to this unit provide law enforcement services to Derby Public Schools, including school resources officers, D.A.R.E., and other educational programs. In addition, this unit coordinates the Citizens Police Academy, Youth Citizens Police Academy, Neighborhood and Business Watch programs, and other crime prevention programs.
The Community Education Section coordinates tours of the police department, and handles requests for police demonstrations at special events (block parties, HOA meetings, civic group meetings and church functions).

Operation ID
Operation ID is a free program to discourage theft and burglaries. Operation ID allows residents to check out an engraver to mark valuables with a unique number, mark or initial. Once marked, your property is much less valuable to a thief because the property can be traced. Stickers are also available to advertise your participation in this program. Property to be marked includes: bicycles, stereos, lawn mowers, power tools, TVs, fishing/camping gear, cell phones, and cameras and camcorders. Call 788-3093 to learn more.
