2017 Council Election

With a seat up for election in each ward of the city, Derby residents have an opportunity in 2017 to vote for a representative to serve on the City Council. The term of office is four years beginning in January 2018.

Registered voters living inside the city limits had to file with the Sedgwick County Election Commissioner by noon on June 1, 2017. The election will be held November 7. City Council elections are non-partisan in nature, meaning candidates need not declare a political party.

Four positions are up for election, one in each ward (see map), and the following people currently serve on the City Council:

  • Ward I – Tom Keil (filed for election)
  • Ward II – Vaughn Nun (filed for election)
  • Ward III – Chuck Warren (not running)
    • Van Willis and Andrew Swindle (filed for election)
  • Ward IV – John McIntosh (filed for election)
Information about the election can be obtained at www.SedgwickCounty.org/elections or by calling 660-7100.

Due to changes in state law in 2015, city council and school board elections moved from April to November beginning in 2017.

The City Council meets twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Information about serving on the city council is available at www.Derbyweb.com/Council or by contacting City Manager Kathy Sexton at KathySexton@Derbyweb.com or 788-3132.
