Artist: John Parsons

The first commissioned bronze in Derby, Panther Rock was originally intended to be two panthers displayed at the corner of K-15 and Madison. Verus Bank (now Citizens Bank of Kansas) offered to take over the project from the Derby Community Foundation and have one panther installed at the Rock Road branch.

The artist, John Parsosn, is a lifelong Derby resident whose original business was Parsons Taxidermy. John has become a well-known bronze sculptor specializing in animals. Many of his pieces are used and sold by the outdoor retailer, Cabelas.
