Jan. 13 Update On Jan. 21, Burlington Northern Santa Fe plans to close the Kay Street railroad crossing for work in the railroad’s right of way. The closure is expected to last up to four weeks. Two-way traffic will be allowed on Kay Street west of Buckner and on Water Street between Washington and Kay St. All other railroad crossings will remain open.
Project Overview The City of Derby is working with Pearson Construction to reconstruct Kay and Water Streets on the west side of Derby. The project will modernize the streets to an urban standard. This project is a result of the West End Development Plan, which will improve access, traffic flow, and increase reinvestment in the area.
Major construction activities will start in October. Contractors will perform preliminary work, such as tree removal and underground utility work which should not significantly impact traffic and property use. Waterline relocation work may result temporary loss of water service. The City will provide advance notice of planned water outages.
Periodic road closures may also be necessary at some locations and access to adjacent properties will be maintained.
