The purpose of the Water Conservation Rebate Program is to encourage residents to reduce water consumption. Rebates will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted and will be credited to the Derby Utility customer’s account. The program is funded entirely by a $25,000 rebate allowance from the City of Wichita which is shared amongst its wholesale customers.
Rebates are available to all Derby Utility customers, including residential and commercial, owner-occupied, and rentals. Any qualifying device purchased between Jan. 1, 2023 and Dec. 31, 2023, is eligible for the program, while funds are available.
Rebates may be claimed immediately and will be awarded up to 90 days from the purchase date. Customers must present receipts and rebate application, which is available at www.derbyks.com/water and at City Hall.
Original copies of the required information must be provided to verify the purchase. Failure to provide the required information will result in the rebate request being denied. The application must include a sales receipt or invoice for the qualifying device. There is a limit of five qualifying devices per City of Derby utility account. Rebates will be credited to the applicant’s utility account.
High Efficiency (HE) Clothes Washer Rebate
$100 for a new high-efficiency clothes washer that is installed and replaces an inefficient model (new construction not eligible).
- The High Efficiency (HE) clothes washer must have a Modified Energy Factor (MEF) of 2.20 or better, a Water Factor (WF) of 4.5 or less (CEE rated), AND be on the approved qualifying device(s) list: www.energystar.gov/productfinder/product/certified-clothes-washers/results
- The old washer must be properly disposed of in a manner that will prevent the reuse of the appliance. Please recycle if possible.
- The rebate amount will not exceed the actual purchase price of the washer, and excludes taxes and costs of installation.
High Efficiency (HE) Dishwasher Rebate
$100 for a new high-efficiency dishwasher that is installed and replaces an inefficient model (new construction not eligible).
- The standard HE Dishwasher must be Energy Star® labeled or meet the CEE Tier 1© water use standard of 4.25 gallons per cycle or less. A compact dishwasher must use 3.5 gallons per cycle or less. For a list of qualifying devices visit

Dual Flush Toilet Conversion Kit Rebate
$50 for newly purchased and installed dual flush toilet conversion kit that allows for choice in toilet water amounts flushed.
- The dual flush toilet conversion kit must allow for a ½ or full flush depending upon whether it is liquid or solid waste that is to be removed from the toilet bowl. Only dual flush conversion kits, such as One2Flush, Dual Flush Pro, HydroRight, Fluidmaster Conversion Kit, etc. are eligible. Trade names used here are examples and are not recommendations. Kits must be installed in older, less efficient toilets (1.6 or 3.5 gallons per flush, etc.). Early-close toilet flappers aren’t eligible.
- The old toilet flushing mechanism must be properly disposed of in a manner that will prevent its reuse. Please recycle if possible.
- The rebate amount will not exceed the actual purchase price of the dual flush conversion kit, and excludes taxes and costs of installation.
Rain Barrel Rebate
$75 for purchased and installed 45 gallons or larger rain barrels.
- Rain barrel must be 45 gallons or larger, algae and UV-resistant, and not be connected to a potable water source. It must be installed in a manner to ensure child safety, debris control, and vector control (mosquitoes/rodents). Newly installed or existing cisterns do not qualify. Rain barrels must be installed above ground securely. The overflow must have positive drainage away from any structures to prevent damage to foundations or structures. Homemade rain barrels also have to meet these specifications.
- The rebate amount will not exceed the actual purchase price of the rain barrel or parts for building a homemade barrel, and excludes taxes and costs of installation.
Rain Sensor-Shutoff Rebate
$100 for a new and installed rain sensor-shutoff that interrupts an automated irrigation system operation after ¼-inch of rain has been received (new construction not eligible).
- The rain sensor-shutoff device must be able to turn off and keep the irrigation system off after ¼-inch of rain has been received, and not let the irrigation system run again until the landscape is dry enough that it needs to be irrigated. The irrigation system on which it is installed must be connected to city water and have a legal and registered cross-connection (backflow) controller.
- Old rain sensor-shutoff devices must be properly disposed of in a manner that will prevent its reuse. Please recycle if possible.
- The rebate amount will not exceed the actual purchase price of the rain sensor-shutoff and excludes taxes and costs of installation.
Showerhead Rebate
$75 for a new and installed Water Saving Showerhead that uses 2.0 gallons per minute or less that replaces an existing inefficient showerhead (new construction not eligible).

Smart Irrigation Controller Rebate
Up to $100 for a new and installed stand-alone or add-on irrigation controller that waters a landscape using Wichita evapotranspiration (ET) values and replaces a conventional irrigation clock (new construction not eligible).:
- The smart irrigation controller must be WaterSense certified and labeled. The irrigation system on which it is installed must be connected to city water and have a legal and registered cross-connection (backflow) controller. - Dispose of old irrigation controllers in a manner that prevents reuse. Recycle if possible.

High-Efficiency Toilet (HET) Rebate (new construction not eligible)
$100 for new and installed HET 1.6 gallons per flush (GPF) or less that replaces an existing high-volume toilet (3+ GPF)
