Neighborhood Maintenance Grant Program Banner

The Neighborhood Maintenance Grant Program is intended to assist lower-income homeowners in maintaining and reinvesting in their properties. The Program awards grants to assist with actual costs incurred by a homeowner for materials, construction and/or architectural services to perform and complete eligible exterior improvements.

FUNDING IS EXHAUSTED FOR THE 2023 PROGRAM YEAR. WE ARE CURRENTLY TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR THE WAITLIST.


Eligible Improvements

  • Siding, paint, masonry, windows, doors, gutters, roofs 
  • Doors, door and window frames, cornices, porches, trim, exterior lighting
  • Existing balconies, decks, fences, driveways, sidewalks, detached garages, accessory structures
  • Other exterior surface repairs or maintenance, subject to approval

Property Eligibility Criteria

  • Occupied by the owner on record.
  • Owner/occupant documented household total income for the previous year at or below 250 percent of the previous year’s Federal Poverty Level for the size of household. 
  • All real estate taxes and assessments must not be delinquent and property insurance must be in effect and current.

Grant Specifics

  • Applications will be accepted each year until all budgeted grant funds are allocated.
  • Grant will pay for 75 percent of documented eligible costs for materials, construction and/or architectural services, based on receipts submitted. In-kind labor or investments will not be eligible to be counted toward property owner’s investment.
  • Maximum grant $5,000 (Homeowner invests $1,667, City of Derby invests $5,000). The homeowner will be solely responsible for any costs beyond grant funds authorized.
  • Minimum total project investment of $1,000 ($250 homeowner, $750 City of Derby).
