Derby’s neighborhoods are at the core of what helps make Derby a great community. They deserve to be celebrated, and the City is doing just that with its Neighborhood of the Year and Neighbor of the Year Awards. The awards will be presented at the Nov. 14 City Council meeting.

The 2023 award winners are Mike Moore for Neighbor of the Year, and the Springcreek Homeowners Association (HOA) for Neighborhood of the Year.

“Derby’s exceptional neighbors and great neighborhoods are part of the fabric of our community, and make Derby a great place to live, work and play,” said Mayor Randy White.

Mike Moore was called an exceptional neighbor in his nomination. He is known to go out of his way to help his neighbors helping decorate for the holidays, helping cut limbs after storms and fixing fences. As an added bonus, Moore’s wife makes Christmas ornaments for neighbors.

The Springcreek Homeowners Association is a highly engaged neighborhood group that exemplifies the spirit of this award program by working together to establish a strong connection among the neighbors. Following COVID, the Springcreek HOA reunited residents by establishing several annual events including Santa Claus is Coming to Springcreek, Springcreek Grill and Chill, and Trick or Treat at Springcreek.

This award program was established in 2021 to highlight and recognize work being done by neighborhood leaders and residents. Congratulations to Derby’s 2023 award winners.
