   The Backyard Cook-Off is a KCBS-sanctioned competition. Two meats will be judged in this contest: chicken and ribs. KCBS 2023 Official Rules and Regulations & Judging Procedures will be used. The People’s Choice competition will be held Friday night. Meat may be prepared prior to arrival (three pork butts per team.) Three pork butts will be given to participating teams to replace those prepared..People's Choice will be paid to 5th place; $500, $450, $400, $275, $175.

27. Waiver of Liability
    The City of Derby, sponsor of the Derby BBQ Festival, including its officers, sponsors and/or associates and the contestants, including parents, and/or legal representatives, agree that the City of Derby will in no case be responsible for any loss, damage, or injury regardless of how much loss, damage, or injury is occasioned, and indemnify and save harmless the City of Derby from any and all claims, suits, and/or judgments including the cost for defense of and such claim and/or suit by the City of Derby brought by anyone as a result of any loss, damage or injury to any person or property, occasioned by any action or inaction of contestant, either solely or in conjunction with the City of Derby. Further, I hereby grant full permission to the City of Derby and/or agents authorized by them, to use any photographs or video recordings of this team at the event for any legitimate purposes.
